RISE
Growth that feels invisible while it is happening. There were periods when getting through the day felt like the only measure of progress. Not sudden change, just continuing onwards.
I was drawn to coral because it grows by repetition rather than intention. It builds outward through small, repeated acts of extension, slowly forming something far larger. Growth that is collective, layered and patient. There is also a sense in which coral holds memory of conditions it has passed through. It records time through form.
Into one surface I inscribed Alan Turing’s equations that describe how simple repeating processes can generate complex patterns in nature. That idea felt important here – that form can emerge from repetition without needing to be designed in advance.
Rise reflects that space where change is happening even when it is not immediately visible. Growth that is gradual rather than declared.
It is about progress that does not announce itself, but accumulates.
